We all have heard those voices in our head. I must get an A on that Chemistry exam, I need to wear clothes that are “trendy”, I need to wear a size 2 in jeans or I’m not skinny enough. The list goes on and on.
Those beliefs that we allow ourselves to think, those negative thoughts and unfair critiques of ourselves are WRONG. We get so sucked into these thoughts that its hard to get away from them. I can relate; I think we all can.
We are often pressured to get the best grades, have a multitude of friends, to always be okay and act as though nothing is ever wrong in life. We are expected to have perfect lives or spend the rest of our lives striving for perfection. Society has given us this never ending list of expectations. What society does not tell us is that we were made by a perfect Creator.
We were made in the image and likeness of God.
If we were made in the image and likeness of God, then from the very beginning of our existence, we were perfect in the eyes of God. And honestly, his opinion is the only one we should listen to.
Your grades do not define you. The amount of likes you get on that Instagram post you probably spent 5+ minutes on editing? Yeah, those don’t matter. Spending time worrying about what someone will think about you is just a waste of time. There will always be one person that is thinking something about you that you wouldn’t like. Most of those people speak from a place of insecurity, jealousy, or loneliness.
God never wanted us to feel the things we do. He never wanted us to look at our bodies and think we should be more, or see the amount of friends walking together to class and think you should have more. The sooner you stop and realize that, the closer you are to doing what he wanted for you in your life.
So stop applying your self worth to those grades or the lack of likes on your Instagram post because you are enough. You have always been enough and you will always be enough. Remember that. God loves you for who you are! Embrace it.
