Long time, no blog.. I haven’t really found the motivation lately for a good blog post. I’ve began typing, but then slowly deleting because I can’t seem to get my thoughts into the right words. I’m excited for you to read this newest post and hope you enjoy it!

——————————————————————————————————————–

This week I came across a song called “Getting Good” by Lauren Alaina. Maybe you’ve heard of it and if you haven’t, I linked it at the end of this post πŸ™‚ If you’re anything like me with new songs, I’ve played it to death. Typically, songs stick out to me because of the beat or the instrumentals, but this one stuck out to me because of the lyrics itself. It’s been a while since I’ve heard a song that really got me thinking, but is still incredibly catchy. She begins the song by listing circumstances of thinking once something happens, then something better will come along, but continually not being content.

“Once I get some money it’ll all be easy, but then you get that money, you still feel broke. Once I get a little older, I won’t worry, then you get older and it don’t feel it should. I’m thinking once I learn to grow right where I’m planted, maybe that’s when life starts getting good.”

“Getting Good” -Lauren Alaina

She continues through the song stating more and more situations in which she thought that life would be better once something more came along. I think too many times we get stuck in this way of life; myself included. We as humans are constantly in this routine of just working toward the next best thing, without truly appreciating that moment. I know as a child I was so excited to grow up and just be an adult. Now that I’m here, it’s not always all I thought it would be. I didn’t think about the bills and responsibilities that adulting entails and sometimes I just miss eating sand in my sandbox! (okay, maybe not that, but you get what I mean πŸ™‚ )

After the first chorus, she talks about a more serious worry of hers- how she’s afraid of both her parents dying, how it hasn’t happened yet, but it will someday. She calls her Dad and he answers right away, but all she can think about is the fact that he won’t someday. This too, unfortunately, is a reality. Death is inevitable. I’m not saying that to make this a sorrowful, depressing post but rather as a reminder that we truthfully don’t know how long we have on this earth. If we live each day by just working toward the next best thing without fully living that day, there’s soo much in life we’re missing out on. Too often, I myself, don’t appreciate every single day I’m given and I just try to make it through that day and onto the next. It’s important to have goals in life and to work towards that next big thing, but don’t forget to enjoy the parts leading up to it.

In the final part of the song she explains how she thinks once she learns to soak up every moment she’ll realize that her life is already good.

“I’m thinking once I learn to soak up every moment, I’ll realize my life’s already good. I’ll realize my life’s already good, thank God that my life’s already good.”

“Getting Good” -Lauren Alaina

We get so caught up in day to day struggles and forget to sit back and think of all the good that is going on in our lives. Right now, there’s a lot going on in our world and many are struggling in ways they never imagined. The only way to get through it is to find those things that you are thankful for and realize that there are parts of this life that are good.

There’s always going to be something in life that we’ll want to change. We’re only human. It’s natural and a good thing to have those goals you aspire to work up to, but you can’t let those goals undermine everything leading up to fulfilling that goal. Take some time to live more in the moment and appreciate all the things about life, not just the big momentous parts. Instead of sitting around and waiting for life to be good because of some change, realize the things in life that already makes it good; there’s more than you may realize!
